Ask Dr. Tseday: September 3, 2009
LD from Pasadena, CA asks: LD from Pasadena, CA asks: My husband and I lent his brother $15,000 eight months ago with the understanding he’ll pay $500 a month. He hasn’t paid anything yet. We’d like to confront him, but how should our approach be?
Dr. Tseday responds: You can try, but I don’t think the confrontation will make much difference. He already knows he needs to pay, but is choosing not to pay. Unless you have legal recourse, I think you are stuck. But let this be a lesson to you and your husband. Next time you decide to “lend” money, draw up a contract or tell the person to go to the bank.
