Ask Dr. Tseday: June 3, 2009
DG from Brea, CA asks: My husband and I always spend time together on his birthday. This year, he wants to go fishing with his friends on his birthday. I’m hurt and feel like he doesn’t want to be with me. How do I deal with this?
Dr. Tseday responds: Don’t make a big deal out of this and don’t hold it over his head in the future as an expression of his preference for his friends rather than you. Send him off with a nice good-bye (you know what I mean?), tell him to enjoy his fishing, and plan something fun for his birthday. You can celebrate when he returns.
