Ask Dr. Tseday: July 2, 2009

RZ from Washington, DC asks: My husband says I have to go to his AA meeting with him as a support. We have kids and I usually don’t have the time. How do I get him to see that I can’t do it all the time? He gets really mad when I don’t go.

Dr. Tseday responds: While it is necessary to be supportive, going with him to AA meetings is not. The meeting is not meant for you. This is something he has to do by himself, for himself. Getting sober and doing all the things necessary to stay sober is his responsibility, not yours.
