Ask Dr. Tseday: June 16, 2008
L.H. from Nashville, Tennessee asks: I have been with my boyfriend for five years. I am 27 and he is 31. The subject of marriage has never come up. I love him, and want to talk to him about getting married but I am afraid he isn’t interested and it would hurt me a lot to find that out. I know I have to ask him. How should I bring it up?
Dr. Tseday responds: If you have been together for five years and the subject of marriage has never come up, you already have your answer. You’re getting hurt because you’re sticking around in hopes that he will change his mind. The writing is on the wall; move on.
